What is Pewter?
Pewter is a metal alloy, or a mixture of different metals, which are combined to make one. It takes at least two metals to make an alloy. Once they are combined, the end product created will have new characteristics such as color, weight, melting points and others. The predominant metal used to make pewter is tin (Sn). High quality pewter will contain at least 92% tin and is made particular to what it will be used for. When copper is added to tin it makes the final product softer and more easily worked into different shapes. Antimony is added to make it bright and nearly free of tarnish. People who work with pewter have specific formulas that they use in accordance to what plans they have for the pewter.
